Journeys: Guided Pathways for Every Manager

Whether you are stepping into your first management role or supporting a team member through a promotion, Journeys gives you a structured plan with milestones, tasks, and actions.

Management is full of moments that feel like they should come with an instruction manual. Your first week leading a team. The morning a new joiner arrives and you realise you have not prepared anything. The conversation where you need to tell someone their performance is not where it needs to be. The one where you tell someone they are ready for the next level and now you need to prove it.

These are not niche situations. Every manager faces them. And yet, most of us navigate them by cobbling together advice from blog posts, half-remembered training, and whatever worked last time. The result is inconsistency, missed steps, and the nagging feeling that you are making it up as you go along.

Journeys changes that. Instead of starting from a blank page every time, you get a structured pathway with milestones, tasks, and actions — designed around the specific moment you are navigating.

Four templates for the moments that matter

Journeys ships with four expert-designed templates, each built around a real management scenario. You pick a team, choose a template, and optionally link it to a specific team member. In seconds, you have a structured plan ready to follow.

First 90 Days as a Manager

90 days

Your first three months set the tone for everything that follows. This journey walks you through listening and learning (Days 1–30), building alignment (Days 31–60), and leading your first meaningful outcomes (Days 61–90). It covers 1:1s with every team member, stakeholder introductions, establishing your management principles, and setting your first team OKRs.

Onboarding a New Team Member

4 weeks

A strong onboarding experience reduces time-to-productivity and builds loyalty. This journey covers preparation before day one, the first-week welcome, mid-onboarding check-ins, and the transition to business as usual. Every task is specific: prepare equipment, assign a buddy, walk through tools, set 30-day goals.

Performance Improvement Plan

8 weeks

PIPs have a bad reputation, but done well they are one of the most supportive things a manager can offer. This journey structures the process: documenting specific gaps, setting measurable targets, providing weekly coaching, gathering peer feedback, and conducting a fair final review with clear next steps.

Preparing for Promotion

12 weeks

When someone is ready for the next level, they need more than your verbal endorsement. This journey helps them map skills to the competency framework, find stretch opportunities, build a promotion case document, seek stakeholder feedback, and present the case to decision-makers.

Each template has been designed with real management best practices in mind. The milestones are phased so you are never overwhelmed, and the tasks are specific enough to be actionable without being prescriptive.

Build your own with Blank Journeys

Templates are a great starting point, but every team is different. That is why Journeys also includes a Blank template — a completely empty canvas where you define your own milestones and tasks from scratch.

Blank journeys are ideal for situations that do not fit the four standard templates. Running a department-wide reorganisation. Preparing for an annual planning cycle. Coaching a team member through a career pivot. Setting up a new process or tool rollout. Whatever the scenario, you name the journey, add milestones in whatever order makes sense, and populate each milestone with the specific tasks your situation demands.

  • Custom milestonesAdd as many milestones as you need, in any order. Each milestone represents a phase of your plan. You can insert new milestones between existing ones at any time.
  • Custom tasksEvery milestone can have its own tasks. Add them manually, or use AI to generate a concise description from the task title and journey context.
  • Full flexibilityDelete milestones or tasks that are no longer relevant. Add new ones as your situation evolves. The journey adapts to you, not the other way around.
  • Same powerful featuresBlank journeys get the same progress tracking, auto-completion, action conversion, dashboard widget, and AI summaries as template-based journeys.

You can also extend template-based journeys. Started with “First 90 Days” but want to add a fourth milestone for Days 91–120? Just add it. The templates are a starting point, not a constraint.

Tasks become actions, actions drive outcomes

Checking off a task is satisfying. But some tasks need more than a tick. They need a deadline, notes, and a place in your wider workflow. That is where action conversion comes in.

Any task in a journey can be converted into a tracked action with one click. The action title is pre-populated from the task, and you can add a due date and notes before creating it. Once created, the action appears in your main actions list with a journey badge linking back to where it came from. The task on the journey only completes when the linked action is marked done — so nothing slips through the cracks.

This connection is what makes Journeys more than a checklist. It bridges the gap between “I should do this” and “this is being tracked, has a deadline, and I will be reminded about it.”

Progress you can see and share

Every journey has an overall progress bar that updates in real time as you complete tasks. Each milestone shows its own progress counter, and milestones auto-complete when all their tasks are done. When every milestone is complete, the journey itself is marked as finished.

On the Manage Journeys page, you get a status pie chart and an outstanding tasks bar chart so you can see at a glance how your journeys are progressing. An optional dashboard widget lets you track active journeys without leaving your home screen. And if you are on the Pro plan, AI summaries review your progress and tell you exactly what to focus on next.

This kind of visibility matters. It is the difference between “I think the onboarding is going well” and “we are 75% through with two tasks remaining in the current milestone.” It gives you confidence, and it gives you something concrete to share with your own manager.

For every level of experience

Journeys is not just for first-time managers, and it is not just for seasoned leaders. It is for anyone who wants a structured approach to the moments that define how well a team is managed.

  • New managersYour first management role is overwhelming. There are stakeholders to meet, processes to learn, trust to build, and team dynamics to navigate. The First 90 Days template gives you a clear sequence so you are not guessing what to do next. You can also create a blank journey for any other transition you are going through simultaneously.
  • Experienced managersYou have onboarded people before, but every situation is different. Templates save you from reinventing the wheel while still letting you customise. Add milestones, remove tasks that do not apply, and extend the journey when your situation demands it.
  • Senior leadersWhen you are managing managers, Journeys gives you visibility into how your team leads are handling their own transitions. You can see progress, review outstanding tasks, and use AI summaries to identify where someone might need support — without micromanaging.
  • HR partnersPIPs and promotion processes need structure and documentation. Journeys provides both. Every task is tracked, every action is logged, and the progress is visible. It is not a replacement for your HR system, but it is a practical companion that keeps the manager on track.

Getting started

Journeys is available today for all users — completely free. There are no limits on the number of journeys you can create, no restrictions on milestones or tasks, and no paywalls around any core feature. AI-powered task descriptions and progress summaries are available on the Pro plan.

To get started, head to the Develop tab in the sidebar and click Journeys. From there, click New Journey, pick a template (or choose Blank), select a team, and you are off. Your first milestone will be expanded and ready for you to start checking off tasks.

If you have ever wished management came with a roadmap, this is it. Not a rigid process document. Not a theoretical framework. A practical, interactive pathway that adapts to your situation and keeps you moving forward.
