You spend hours every week inside your management tools. The colours, the layout, the typography. It all adds up. When something feels generic, it stays at arm's length. When it feels like yours, you lean in. That is the difference a well-chosen theme makes. Not decoration, but ownership.
A tool that looks the way you want it to is a tool you actually enjoy opening. Customisation is not a nice-to-have. It is the difference between something you tolerate and something you reach for.
Preset themes: pick and go
Not everyone wants to build a colour palette from scratch. That is why Manager Toolkit ships with a set of ready-made themes. Four are free, and several more are included with Pro. Each one changes the sidebar, headers, cards, buttons, and text colours in a single click.
- Free themesDefault purple, Dark Purple, Light, and Night. Each built for readability and comfort across long working sessions. Switch between them any time you like.
- Pro themesGrayscale for a minimal feel. Water and Soil for something natural. Christmas and Halloween when the season calls for it. Retro and Futuristic for personality. One click to apply, one click to change back.
Quick Start: three colours, one click
Building a custom theme sounds like a design project. It is not. The Quick Start tool asks for three colours: your sidebar, your background, and your accent. Pick them, hit Apply, and the system generates every other colour automatically. Lighter and darker variants, header gradients, row stripes, even the text colour adjusts based on your background brightness.
A live preview updates as you choose, so you can see exactly how it will look before committing. The whole process takes about fifteen seconds. If you do not like the result, pick different colours and try again. There is no save step to undo. It is instant and reversible.
- Sidebar colourControls the navigation menu on the left. This is the most visible element, so start here. Dark blues, deep greens, charcoal greys, or anything that feels like home.
- Background colourSets the tone for cards, panels, and the main page area. Lighter backgrounds get dark text automatically. Darker backgrounds get white text. You do not have to think about contrast.
- Accent colourButtons, highlights, active states. This is the colour that draws your eye. Something bold works well here, but subtle is fine too.
Fine-tune every detail
Quick Start gets you 90% of the way there. The fine-tune controls handle the rest. Every colour in the interface is individually adjustable, grouped into sections that make sense: Sidebar and Navigation, Titles and Pop-ups, Pages and Cards, and Buttons and Text.
Each colour picker shows what it controls in plain language. "Pop-up title bar" instead of "modal header gradient." "List row (light)" instead of "row even background." You do not need to know CSS to get the result you want.
Typography controls sit alongside the colours. Choose from nine fonts, including Quicksand, Inter, Open Sans, Roboto, and more. Adjust the size from 12px to 18px, the thickness from thin to extra bold, and the letter spacing from tight to wide. Every change applies instantly across the entire interface.
Why customisation matters more than you think
Personalisation is not vanity. Research consistently shows that people perform better in environments they have shaped themselves. The same applies to digital tools. When your workspace reflects your preferences, you spend less mental energy adjusting and more energy on the work itself.
- OwnershipA tool that looks like yours feels like yours. You are more likely to use it consistently, keep it updated, and build habits around it. That consistency is what makes the difference between a tool that gathers dust and one that becomes essential.
- Reduced fatigueBright interfaces in dark rooms, tiny text on large screens, clashing colours that make you squint. These small irritations add up across a full day. A theme tuned to your preferences removes that friction entirely.
- AccessibilityCustom themes are not just about preference. Adjustable font sizes, weights, and high-contrast colour combinations help managers with visual impairments use the tool comfortably. What looks like a cosmetic feature is often a practical necessity.
- Team identitySome managers match their theme to their team or company colours. It is a small thing, but it reinforces the sense that this is your space for managing your team. When it looks like it belongs to you, you treat it differently.
Getting started
Open the theme picker from your profile page or the sidebar settings. Browse the preset themes to find one that fits. If none of them feel right, open the Custom tab and use Quick Start to build your own in seconds. Fine-tune from there if you want to, or leave it as-is.
Every change saves automatically and syncs across your devices. There is no export step, no config file, no risk of losing your setup. Switch themes as often as you like. Some managers change with the seasons. Others find one and stick with it for months. Both approaches work.
The goal is simple: make the tool feel like it was built for you. Because when it does, you use it better.
